Mark Turner founded Emsity Ltd in 2018 with the intention of bringing accessible risk management practices and tools to businesses around the world.
Having held a life-long fascination with technology and computing, Mark has been able to combine his professional risk management knowledge with his passion for technology to create a number of innovative solutions for customers across the globe. At the same time, he has developed strong relationships with customers which have helped to transcend Emsity from a simple risk technology consultancy into a trusted and well-respected business collaborator.
Mark joined the Royal Navy in 1989 as an apprentice, where he qualified as an engineer and swiftly rose through the ranks to run the weapon section of a nuclear submarine within eight years. During this time, he gained practical experience in project planning delivery.
After 12 years, he joined BAE Systems Avionics as a project planner and soon became the project office manager responsible for 16 people in his department.
Seeing how much of project delivery involved the management of risk, Mark then moved to study Risk Management with the Institute of Risk Management, and became the company risk manager, where he developed the deep knowledge and a passion for the subject he still holds today.
When he was working for Selex Galileo, he was asked to project manage a couple of multi-million-pound, high-risk research & development projects, proving his skills to be scalable to larger projects.
In 2008 Mark was invited to head the Internal Audit function in the UK for Selex Galileo, which he managed for seven years, gaining deep experience in the Internal Audit profession, and exposing him to the C-Suite for the first time.
He then took on the role of Vice President for Risk Management in the Airborne and Space Systems Division of Leonardo in 2015. In that role, he created a robust risk management software tool, and delivered training to over 600 people.
In 2018 he decided it was time to strike out on his own, so he set up Emsity Limited. Within days he had signed several clients and has been busy ever since.
“My work has taken me across Europe and on to Australia and Malaysia, and I have worked online with prospects from India, Hong Kong, China, Canada and the USA.”
He has published several articles internationally and has been invited to speak at numerous events. He has also used his platform as a thought leader in Risk Management to help train future teachers of risk management, using his “train the trainer” qualification.
In 2023 Mark was awarded an Honarary Fellowship of the Institute of Risk Management in recognition of his work as a Non-executive director of the institute.
